Nexus Partners with AFC!

ATLANTA, GA (April 18, 2019) – Two of South Metro Atlanta’s leading soccer clubs, Nexus Revolution FC and AFC Lightning, today announced a strategic partnership to create, AFC Henry County. The Henry County club will be based out of Village Park in North Henry County (750 Fairview Rd, Ellenwood, GA 30294).

Nexus Revolution is a competitive state-recognized youth soccer organization located in North Henry County and is the official youth developmental program for the Georgia Revolution semi-professional team. Since 2016, Nexus has been a positive force in the community, focusing on personal and player development using the W9 Soccer System.

AFC Lightning is a nationally-recognized youth soccer organization located in Fayetteville and Peachtree City. AFC is a leader in boys and girls soccer in Metro Atlanta.  AFC has won multiple state and Region III Championships, and two National Championships. AFC is a member of the U.S. Development Academy, National Premier League club, and an official Atlanta United Partner Club.

After the completion of the Spring 2019 season, Nexus Revolution will be joining AFC Lightning Soccer Club and rebranding itself as AFC Henry County. The purpose of the merger is to provide players from both clubs additional opportunities to develop into their full potential.

Operating as one organization, we will schedule our youth academy programs together, allowing deeper player pool for weekend games and tournaments, and to give our players opportunities for additional games.

AFC Henry County teams will continue to train and play games at Village Park in North Henry County, under the direction of Duane Samuels and Warren Ukah, while AFC Lightning DA, Gold, Red, Black, and White teams will remain at McCurry Park or PAC.

All AFC Lightning players may take advantage of the AFC “open training policy” and will have the option to attend extra training sessions at any location as long as they’re meeting their own team’s practice requirements.

"I am very excited about the partnership with AFC, our combined programs will provide the players in our community greater opportunities to play at the highest level. Players will be able to take advantage of AFC’s Super Y, National Premier League, and DA programs, and our players will have a professional pathway through our partnership with the Georgia Revolution,” said Duane Samuels, Director of Coaching for Nexus.

“We’re excited and proud to join forces with the players, coaches, and families currently playing at the Nexus Revolution,” said AFC Lightning Executive Director Steve Muccillo.  “I have had the pleasure of knowing Duane and Warren for a long time and look forward to working alongside both of them to grow our great sport on the Southside of Atlanta,” said Steve Muccillo AFC Lightning Executive Director.  “We also look forward to developing a mutually beneficial relationship with Eric Morrison and the Georgia Revolution.  It’s always a positive experience when youth players get to see great soccer in person.  We look forward to seeing the Revs play!”
