Former Lightning player, Rakel Karvelsson will be playing this summer for the Philadelphia Charge in the W*USA league. Signed as a free agent, she was named to the Charge's 20 player roster.

At Lightning, Rakel played on the '76 White and '77 White teams. She won State Championships with both teams as well as a Region III Gold Medal with the '77's. In high school, she won 3 State Championships with McIntosh HS. Each of those years, she was selected to the All State team. She was also chosen as her teams Most Valuable Player. She scored 73 goals and had 42 assists during her high school career.

Attending college at UNC she won two National Championships. Despite starting just eight times in 102 career games, she totaled 40 goals and 33 assists for 113 points to finish in the school's top 20 list in all three categories.

Since graduating from college, Rakel has played several games with the Icelandic National Team. Though she was born in California, her parents are from Iceland, allowing her to make use of her dual citizenship.

Hopefully, we will get to see Rakel play with Philadelphia on Saturday, April 28th at 7:30 PM when they play here against the Atlanta Beat. We hope Rakel will be successful in her professional career.
