LIGHTNING ALUMNI TO PLAY IN COLLEGE ALL STAR GAME

Former Lightning players Brantley Spillman and Marshall Leonard have been selected to participate in the UMBRO Select All-Star game on February 9th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. This is the top all-star game in the nation for collegiate players and is held prior to the league Soccer draft on February 10th and 11th. The players will begin camp on February 6th in preparation for the game. Both Marshall and Brantley played for the Lightning 80 Gold team which won Georgia's first ever National Championship in 1988. Marshall was also one of the captains on the team. Brantley, from Griffin, GA played sweeper for the UAB Blazers. He started in 71 games in four years. He was selected Second Team - All South by the NSCAA and Second Team All Conference USA. Marshall, from Columbus, GA played mostly in the defense for the Virginia Cavaliers. He started in 89 games and had 1 goal and 11 assists for the team. |
