CONGRATULATIONS!

Coach Chris Mahaffey has signed for the Atlanta Silverbacks A league team. That is a tremendous honor and the Lightning Club wishes Chris every success during the upcoming season.

With Steve Muccillo coaching the PDL team at the Silverbacks and Chris playing for the first team, we have an excellent opportunity to get our young players to watch some excellent competition during the off season.

Once again, Chris, congratulations.

LETTER FROM STEVE WEEMAN

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I would first like to thank each of you for the time and effort that you invest daily in this soccer club and its players. Without your efforts, this club would not survive, much less thrive.

Secondly, I would like to inform you that I am resigning as President of AFC Lightning effective May 1,2008. The time required by my increasing responsibility at work, as well as our 6 (soon to be 7) grandchildren, has made it extremely difficult to allocate the attention to AFC Lightning that a club of this size and competitiveness needs.

Jason (JT) Thompson has agreed to be AFC Lightning's new president, and I feel that the club is very fortunate to have JT accept that position. JT grew up in our club playing on the '75 Lightning team for Phil Neddo and David Chadwick. He played for Fayette County High School and later for Maryville College in Tennnessee. He has coached both rec and select youth soccer teams. He referees high school soccer, is a USSF Grade 7 referee, and is the referee assignor for PTCYSA. He continues to play adult indoor soccer with his friends and is the Chairman of the Lightning Alumni Association.

Jason is an attorney in Fayette County as well as Judge Pro Hoc in Peachtree City Municipal Court and Assistant Solicitor-General in Spalding County State Court. He is the Past President of the Fayette County Bar Association.

His intimate knowledge of our geographic area and his continuing involvement with soccer, both youth and adult, make JT an ideal match for this position. I know that you will appreciate the energy and ability that he brings to AFC Lightning, and I am confident that you all will support him in this endeavor.

Again, I would like to thank you for the 20+ years that I have been privileged to be affiliated with AFC Lightning.

Steve Weeman, President AFC Lightning
