Phillips is in his first year of involvement on the coaching side with AFC.

Phillips grew up in Tampa, Florida and won two high school state championships with Leto High School.  Phillips then went on the play at Old Dominion University where the team won four conference Championships and had the lowest goals against average in the country his senior season.  Upon graduating from ODU, Phillips played with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the APSL for two seasons and also began what turned into a 17 year professional indoor soccer career. 

Phillips achievements include:

- NPSL Rookie of The Year with the Harrisburg Heat in 1992-93.
- Two CISL Championship with the Las Vegas Dustdevils in 1994 and the MISL Baltimore Blast in 2003. 
- Goalkeeper of The Year in 2000 and 2006
- US National Futsal Team from 1994-2007
- In the 2004 Futsal CONCACAF Championships, Phillips was named goalkeeper of the tournament and the US team won the Gold Medal, which qualified the U.S. for the Futsal World Cup.
- Played in the 2004 Futsal World Cup in Taipei and the U.S. team finished in the top ten in the world.
- Captain of the US Futsal team in the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil where the team had a 4th place finish.

Phillips retired in 2009 and is in the process of opening a women’s weight loss and wellness center in Peachtree City.  Phillips lives in Peachtree City with his wife, Kelly, and daughters Lauryn (9), Alexis (6), and Riley (5).

Phillips coaches his daughter Alexis’ team, and will start coaching Riley’s team next season.   Phillips states that, "Nothing better than spending time with the kids, on the soccer field."
