Roby Stahl

Roby is one of the first Americans ever to play and coach full time professionally in Europe. His name is recognized worldwide by FIFA and National Teams as a high-level coach and educator. He has been instrumental in raising the level of skill and play for thousands of students from grade school through college, nationally and internationally. Roby has developed his unique teaching methodology through impressive soccer achievements at all levels.

His methodology is noted as one of the most professional and sophisticated worldwide. Roby is in constant demand as one of the most outstanding clinicians training individuals and teams in soccer today. He is an annual presenter for both the USYSA Workshop and the NSCAA Coaches Convention.

Roby graduated from the University of Akron in 1975 where he was a four-year varsity letter winner and captain for two years. During those years he was a member of the U19 Men's National Team and the U.S. Olympic Team player pool.

After graduating from Akron, Roby played professionally in Europe with the Cork Celtic FC in Ireland and trained with West Ham United of the English Premier League. Additionally, he played professionally for the Cleveland Cobras of the American Soccer League and was a member of the Clayton Football Club and Walthamstow Park FC of the Rothman-Isthmian League in London, England.  He was very active in the London Football Coaches Association at that time.

In addition to his impressive playing resume, Stahl comes to AFC Lightning with extensive coaching experiences at the youth, adult, collegiate and professional levels. His professional coaching resume includes stints as the Head Men's and Women's Coach for Tyresö FF in Stockholm, Sweden, Head Coach at the College of Charleston (SC), Assistant Coach at Old Dominion University, and Interim Coach for both Men and Women at the University of Central Florida. Roby spent two years assisting with training for the Columbus Crew (MLS) and is the former Head Coach of the Cincinnati Kings (USL PDL & PASL). He is the former owner and director of Post-To-Post Training Centers catering to elite players across the US.  During this time his staff was made up by many of the US National Team players and coaches, and many national team coaches, technical directors, and instructors from Sweden, England, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland and FIFA.

On the youth level, Stahl previously served as the Director of Coaching and Soccer Education for the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association, Founding DOC Boys Ohio Elite Soccer Academy, Technical Director/Director of Coaching for FC America Omni/Kumba in Orlando, Florida, Technical Director for Hungryneck International in Charleston, South Carolina, Technical Director for Kings Hammer Soccer Club, Cincinnati, Ohio, and as Head Coach for numerous boys' and girls' youth and high school teams in various states and countries.

Roby possesses coaching licenses from NSCCA Premier, US Soccer 'A', Swedish FF Elite, Brazilian Elite, and US Soccer National Youth, and a Masters in Educational/Sports Administration from Old Dominion University.
Gavin MacLeod

A native of East Kilbride, Scotland, Gavin MacLeod is a 2009 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University where he was a key member of the men’s soccer program for four years. While at LMU he led the team to the 2006 Final Four and the 2007 NCAA DII National Championship Final. In addition, he was named 2008 NSCAA Scholar All-Region during a senior season that saw him named team captain. He helped the program obtain the first #1 national ranking in the history of Railsplitter athletics. Gavin has also played for the Cincinnati Kings and the Vermont Voltage in the USL PDL.

After obtaining his BS in Kinesiology & Physical Education from LMU he moved to Leeds, England where he completed his MS in Sport & Exercise Nutrition at Leeds Metropolitan University, graduating in 2010. During his time there, Gavin began working for Leeds United FC where he acted as the first team nutrition consultant, assistant strength & conditioning coach, as well as a member of the youth coaching staff.

Since returning to the Cincinnati area in 2012, Gavin worked with current AFC Executive Director Roby Stahl at the Kings Soccer Academy as the Assistant Coach of their USL PDL team, training Elite teams and worked with the Elite Performance Training staff. He is formerly the Head Coach of the Dayton Dutch Lions USL W-League team for top collegiate athletes. In addition, he is an NSCAA Associate Staff coach and has served as part of the women’s coaching staff at the University of Cincinnati (D-1) and Mt. Saint Joseph University (D-3).  His collegiate contacts will greatly benefit our players.

Gavin has also been a key part of one of the top Region II girls clubs, Cincinnati United Premier, training several teams and players who have gone on to regional and national success.

MacLeod’s experience also includes strength & conditioning/nutritional consulting work with members of the Great Britain women’s basketball team, Scottish national team rugby players, Olympic & world champion triathletes as well as world champion boxers.

He holds many licences/certifications including UEFA 'B', NSCAA Premier Diploma (Distinguished Pass), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA and UKSCA), and Level 4 Obesity & Diabetes Management (REPS).


Jon Williams

Jon hails from Memphis, Tennessee and played at Lincoln Memorial University leading them to final four appearances, and one NCAA runners up.  Following graduation, he served as LMU Assistant coach. After college Jon spent time in the USL Premier Development League and played for the Memphis Express, Indiana Invaders, Vermont Voltage, and four years with the Cincinnati Kings PDL team.  He also served as the team’s assistant, coaching players from various college programs including Indiana University, Santa Barbara (CA), Kentucky, Louisville, NKU, Xavier, and the University of Cincinnati, as well as players who went on to become professionals (Steven Beattie, Paul Andrews, Luke Spencer, Stephen Williams).  Jon has also played two years for the Cincinnati Kings professional indoor team and was part of the team that made the Open Cup final in 2011.

Jon also spent time as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s soccer programs at the College of Mount St. Joseph and helped lead the women’s program to the conference tournament semi-finals. On the club side, Jon worked with Kings Hammer Academy as their u7-u9 Director of Coaching, as well as coaching various teams in the OSSL and MRL divisions in Ohio. Jon currently holds his NSCAA “Premier” Diploma which is the highest coaching license within the NSCAA coaching education program. He also has a degree in Kinesiology and a Master’s in Education- Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.


Jeff Timmers

A native of Northern Kentucky, Jeff is a USSF C License coach that has an extensive background in teaching  and coaching children.   Jeff is a 12 year veteran teaching middle grades education.  Jeff has his Master’s Degree in Education in Sport Administration from Xavier University as well as his Bachelor’s Degree in Education grades K-12 from Northern Kentucky University with an emphasis in Physical Education and Health Education. 
Jeff has coached at all levels throughout his 20+ year coaching career.  Jeff has served as an ODP coach for Ohio South and Kentucky taking teams from both State Associations to the ODP Region 2 camps.  Prior coming to AFC Lighting, Jeff fulfilled responsibilities as head coach as well has lead trainer for the U8-U12 teams at his previous club, KHA in Northern Kentucky.  Jeff has coached teams that have competed in the Midwest Region League, Super Y League, Buckeye Premier League and State Leagues in Ohio and Kentucky.
Jeff has been an Associate Director of Roby Stahl’s Striker Schools Nationwide, Elite Players training centers and in very active in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  A student of the game, Jeff has traveled in Europe attending various coaching schools and is currently planning future trips domestically and abroad to work directly with clubs to further enhance his education.  
Jeff’s role as Academy Director is to continually refine and implement training methods that the players and coaching staff will see the most development from.  Jeff is also responsible for designing appropriate age group curriculums.  


Michael Rodriguez

Michael was born and raised on Long Island, NY and comes to Atlanta after spending 2 years in Seville, Spain working with professional clubs Brenes Balompie and C.D. Acala. While in Seville, Michael also had the opportunity to work closely with the youth academy, 1st team, and directors of the European Champions Sevilla FC.

Before leaving for Spain, Michael spent 4 years working in Division I college soccer with Columbia University in the Ivy League. He worked as an Assistant to Head Coach Kevin Anderson and was heavily involved in the recruiting of the top student-athletes across the United States and Internationally.

In addition to his college commitment, Michael was also a key part of the success of Albertson SC Developmental Academy, who in 2013 were the only club to have its U15 pre-academy and both U16 and U18 teams qualify for DA National Championships held in Houston, TX. His club resume is further bolstered by his time as a Director at Downtown United Soccer Club, one of the biggest clubs in Manhattan and an affiliate of the MLS franchise New York City FC. 

As a player, Michael was a captain and standout at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Michael was a member of the U17 National Team,  which in 1992, became the 1st U.S. National Team to win Gold at the CONCACAF U17 World Cup qualifiers. As a youth goalkeeper, he also had the privilege to spend 6 months with Premier League Club Norwich City's  U16 academy. 

Michael is in the process of completing his UEFA coaching licenses in Europe.
